Talking about iconic teen romcom movies, 10 Things I Hate About You always at the top of my mind. This movie was SO popular back to late 90s era and have big fans all over the world.
But when I watched it several months ago, lil bit confusion creeping up. What makes this movie highly talked about?
The movie centers on two very different sisters, where the younger-pretty-popular Bianca, can't get a date until her strong-willed-but-never-date sister Katherine does.
The conflict goes when two guys want to take Bianca to the prom. One is shy and likable. The other is a jerk.
Then both of them persuade (read: bribe) the school outlaw, Patrick, to ask Katherine to the prom. Patrick just want the money at first, but then realizes that Kat is actually quite lovely and really falls in love with her.
But unfortunately, Kat finds out about the bribe and hates him.
10 Things I Hate About You for me is not special, but not bad either. It just doesn't light up the sparks in me.
I wasn't touched when Kat came to the front of the class and recite a poem when it supposed to be the best moment.
Or maybe because I simply don't fall in love easily to teen romcom?
Despite all of unsatisfied feeling, I really love the moment when Patrick trying to win Kat's heart. He waits until she's on the athletic field, and then sings "I love you baby'' over the P.A. system, having bribed the school's marching band to accompany him are the best! They both cute together tho.
So, i'll summary my views about 10 Things I hate About You by imitate the last lines of Kat's poem:
I hate it when I'm done watching, and the fact that it didn't satisfy me.
But mostly I hate the way I don't hate this movie. Not even close, Not even a little bit, Not even at all.
